Hei Folks,

At First Time ,

I would like to ask something, Is there anybody here ever got problem with try to ping IP with -t -l more than 512 and did not working ?

Now

I've tried to ping IP Management Server( iDRAC & CMC ) by client with -t -l 1024 and work. But when I want to ping the host ( Suse ) with -t -l 1024 the result is RTO and then I try ping it to 512 and It worked. It doesn't want to ping more than 512 , like 513 ( Will be RTO )

I have call the support, and email but still don't get the result . And It's all already happened for two weeks

Thanks

N4032 configuration issues/doubts

$

Hi Community,

I'm seeking guidance on a few doubts about the N4032 configuration issues. Although I have taken networking classes with Cisco switches still new to the field, never configured N4032 before. Ok, this is the situation: we're upgrading our network with 2 N4032 switches connected to a Vxrail appliance and I have been assigned the switches configuration, which is:

  • Create Vlan for Management (this have to be routable), VSAN, Vmotion and production environment and assign ports, ip addresses to them. All Vlan's are tagged.
  • Ports connected to the appliance have to run in trunk mode and allow tagged traffic for their respective vlan. Other than Management traffic, all traffic is isolated.
  • ipv4 / ipv6 multicast has to be enable thru MLD and IGMP snooping and querier.
  • Uplink port to backbone has to allow vlans traffic.

Now, these are the issues and doubts:

  • We're planning to use one switch as master and the other as backup and I read that we can use the QSPF modules for stacking and use the auto sync command so the backup switch get the master configuration. Is this correct? Please elaborate on how to do this.
  • When #sho interfaces status, I see default vlan 1 in parenthesis in the same ports assigned to other vlans. Why?
  • When #sho run I can see MLD and IGMP snooping querier enabled for the required vlan. Do I need to do enable something else?
  • When I plug the uplink port to the backbone switch, the port gets disabled because of a looping caused by STP sent by the switch I'm working on. What am I missing here?
  • When I test the vlan connection pinging 2 laptops with firewall off and within the vlan ip addreses range, I get destination host unreachable.

This is result of my #sho run:

Settings Jumbo frame on N4064F with mixed port settings

Hello All,

I am in process of configuring N4064F switch that will act as Xenservers hyper-visors  backbone

We intend to connect 2x10G LACP for each server, 8 of them to use nfs storage  mount connection , each

of the nfs we would like to make it mtu jumbo frame , and the rest of 10G connection with normal mtu 1518

I can see on manual that jumbo frame activation  is only global settings and not individual per port "#system jumbo mtu 9216" , and next all ports shows with MTU 9216

My question is would setting will cuase normal port with host operate mtu 1518 issues or i can safly turn this option on ?

Please advice

Thanks

PowerConnect 5424 MAC based VLAN assignment

$

I have a pair of Powerconnect 5424 switches that have been in service for quite some time for our EqualLogic arrays. We are now adding a Compellent SC4020 to the mix, and due to the PowerConnects not liking the SFP+ 10Gbps Twinax cables (the switches did show something there, they did not link up on the Compellent), we need to use the Base-T ports on the Compellent.

I have one of the Base-T ports configured and linked no problem. The problem is with the first port which is the management port. There are currently two separate MAC addresses with separate IPs for management (One is the BMC and the other is the Compellent management IP), and there is now a third MAC address available to that port after the upgrade to 6.7 for iSCSI.

If I configure the port on the switch for my LAN VLAN, obviously I can get to the management IPs, and obviously, the Compellent would not be able to contact the iSCSI VLAN on that port (If I were to configure it). If I configure the port default to the iSCSI VLAN, the opposite is true.

In poking around the switch, it *appears* as if it may be possible to configure a port to send traffic for a specific MAC Address to a specific VLAN using the Static Address, but if so, I must be missing something because I couldn't get it to work.

Any thoughts?

2 FN410T in FX2 in VLT-Mode

Hello,

we have a FX2 with 2 FN410T as IOMs. I changed the mode from Standalone to VLT and I'm not sure if this works correctly. I did it strongly like advised in the Deployment-Guide found here:

But the Backup-Link in the 2 modules are a 169-IP-address wich is a little suspicous for me. Also I tried to reboot one of the 2 IOM. I first set the 2 external ports to down wich sets also the internal ports down. That makes me a bit wondering. But the connection was still okay and the other IOM did all the work.

Than I reloaded the first IOM wich was offline and after it was back the connection to the servers was lost for appr. a minute. And this is totaly weird in my opinion.

The Dashboard of the 2 IOMs say it is all okay and VLT is up and running with all necessary links and heartbeats and so on. But why is after a reload the connection lost for a while?

Not able to ping default gateway from blade server

Dear All,

I'm facing connectivity issue with M630 blade server. I m not able to ping default gateway from blade server. We have MXL 10/40Gbe Switch IO Module on back panel of M1000e chassis.

We have connected two fiber cable from cisco core switch to dell I/O module and configured this port as LACP on both the end i.e on dell switch as well as cisco switch. We have configured VLAN i.e. 210 on cisco switch as well as on dell switch.

We can ping the default gateway from Dell switch but we cannot reach the default gateway from any of the blade server.

Even we can ping the blade server with each other but we cannot reach the default gateway from any of the servers.

Appreciate your quick respond.

Configuring RSPAN span/mirror port to see all vlan traffic in Dell N3048P switches

$

Hi everyone,

I am working on installing a trial Websense/Forcepoint installed in Hyper-V Windows 2012R R2. I am not able to get the server to see other VLAN LAN segment traffic. At this point I have configured the 'source' and 'destination' ports on one of the switch. The two NICs on the server are connected to this switch.

I Googled and that I would need to setup RSPAN to see all VLAN traffic and I was wondering if I need to do that for all the switches;  we have couple of the N3048P switches.  Can someone here shed some light or confirm if I wanted to see traffic from other vlans and network segments this would be the solution.

I have about 10 LAN segments and vlan associated with these vlans.

Setup:

'Source' Nic1 - blocking/filtering  - port 25

'Destination' Nic2 - Monitoring - port 27

Thanks.

Dell X1052P Switches & Dell TZ300

$

I have a dell TZ600 sonicwall and 4 Dell x1052P switches in different NOC rooms.  2 in NOC-A, 1 in NOC-B and another in NOC-C.  The two in NOC-A are connected by 10GBe connection and the others are 2 X Cat6e in a LAG.

4 VLANS (1, 10, 20 ,30) - On the sonicwall I create a separate network & port for each VLAN.  They connect to switch NOC-A1 and the switchport is marked as Untagged for its respective VLAN.  The LAG's and 10Gbe are assigned as Trunk with all 4 VLANs - I removed all others.

The Sonciwall TZ600 is DHCP for 10, 20 and 30 VLANS.  VLAN 1 DHCP is handled by a windows server.

VLAN 20 is for phones I configured all switches ports 1-24 with MED and Voice-VLAN per the dell article floating around.  Works great.  Phones always get on the correct VLAN.

The problem I have is the no matter the switch or port I connect to either wired or wireless I may get connected to VLAN 30.  Even connecting on the PC port on the phones the same thing happens.   If I issue a ipconfig /release and /renew commands in command prompt I will get on VLAN 1; this may take a couple attempts.

Once on the correct VLAN (1) I'll remain on it until the next day when I re-dock and try to connect.  I'll get put on the incorrect VLAN 30.  I can also easily get back to VLAN 30 by reissuing the ipconfig /release & /renew commands after getting to VLAN 1.

ALL of the switch ports I connect too are set to Access with "1" assigned so I should not be able to see VLAN 30.

As a test I changed the Trunks to General and I get the same results.  I checked the routing and there is just the network for the VLAN 1 which was done when the switch is assign an IP.

Why are the x1052P switches putting me in a different VLAN?

Dell X1052P Firmware Upgrade - Console Putty Issue

I want to upgrade the firmware on the x1052P switches and read it needs to be done in CLI.  However whenever I connect the cable and use PUTTY - PUTTY just dings and I click Open.

Using a windows 7 laptop and installing the drivers for the switch located in the firmware zip file (3.0.0.91) COM4 appears when I connect the cable.  I DID NOT connect the cable before installing the drivers.  However I did notice windows going to windows update for more drivers.  When I check COM4 drivers is shows the FTDI drivers.

I open Putty 64 bit and select serial, COM4, 9600, 8, 1, N, N and change terminal to VT100+.  When I click Open is Dings.  Nothing happens.

My guess is WIndows screwed up the drivers even tho I had preinstalled the CDM drivers from the 3.0.0.91 zip file.

How do I fix?

5548 Remove Switch from Stack

I have a 3 switch stack of 5548's. My needs have changed and no long need the third switch in the stack, so I wanted to remove it.

I removed spanning-tree on all the ports on switch 3. Then I moved around the HDMI interconnect cables so that only switch 1 and switch 2 are interconnected. The web interface no longer shows the ports from switch 3 (Good), but the console shows the configuration for the switch 3 port when I do "show run" or "show startup"(Bad). More importantly, the console stalls when I do "show interfaces status" as it walks through the ports and gets to what was switch 3.

How do I remove all the switch 3 interfaces from the config?

Hello,

I have installed an N3024F switch which acts as a distribution switch to the Up-link of N3024 switches on different floors. The switches on other floors are N3024 24 port Ethernet.

When I plug in my 331-5309 1Gb transceiver I get no lights on either the N3024F or any of the N3024 switches in the field. Its as if its not reading it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Criamos a default 1vlan 192.168.X.X

mascara 255.255.0.X

vlan 2 172.23.24.X

mascara 255.255.248.X

lacp on multiple switches

+------------------+   first cable
| switch core 1 |------------
+------------------+            +

                                      +------------| switch N  |
                                      +   lacp    +-------------+
+------------------+            +
| switch core 2 |------------
+------------------+    second cable

I desire a situation like the above, where the "remote" switch has one lacp (two ports) and each cable connects to the core switches in which we configure a single lacp on each switch. I think that we need to use two core switches that support trunking (sees as one logical unit), is it correct? some suggestion on models that support this? now we use dell 5224 as core switches and I see that 6224/6248 support that configuration, correct?

thanks

Dell 6224 Fan Air Flow

Hello everyone,

I decided to replace the fans on my 6224 so that I could use that switch near my desk.  After some hit and miss I have fans that work with this but in the time delay from when I started this I did not keep track as to which direction should the fans go in (blow out and pull air out or blow in and push air in).  My other switches are no help as some go one way and others go the other.

Thank you for your time!
