M8428-K ospfv3 hello dropped

$

0

hello,

ospfv3 hello packets sent out  from vmware vm connected to a M8428-K switch are dropped by m8428-k
- 2 vm on the same vmware host works correctly,
- if I move one of the vm on a different host, both connected to the same m8428-k packets does not arrive to the target host
- if the receiver is a phisical router outside the M8428-K it does not receive hello from the vm
- if I move the vm (vmotion) to a different host with different switch (hp instead dell) all works perfectly

the problem may be some config on the M8428-K, or something about the nic driver on the esx host any hints?

Inherited PowerConnect 3548 prompts for password at boot.

Hi All,

I have inherited a powerconnect 3548, where I work and I'm unable to get into the settings.

I've entered the boot menu on startup by pressing escape, then no 3 for the password recovery option, however I'm just returned to the boot menu with no option to reset  the password or go to the console.

Restarting the switch just throws me back to the password prompt again.

I've been through the guide and can't see anythinh that I'm doing obviously wrong.

Many Thanks

Jon

How to block a single IP (192.168.0.1/22) on every port of switch but the port the router is in?

In an educational enviroment, students add ip address 192.168.0.1 in their phone, intentionally, or by turning on hotspot, this then interferes with in-house dhcp server and gateway. We have Dell 6224- and 6248 switches

I´m attaching a copy of the log file with the last 400 messages, all the same. On the other tab of the excel document, you can see the configuration of this Gi3/0/11: Trunked Port, RSTP enable, Port fast disabled, etc.

In this port we have connected an Alcatel-Lucent Switch, model OS6450-U24. This switch is used to connect our VoIP phone´s.

Thank you for your help.

ACL GUESTWIFI on PowerConnect 6224

$

Hi

Im creating a GUESTWIFI VLAN (VLAN40 - 10.18.40.0/24) and I only want it to reach DHCP servers (VLAN60 10.18.60.15 & 10.18.60.16) and to access the Internet via my WatchGuard(10.18.254.1) on VLAN254 (10.18.254..0/24). All other VLANS are off limits.

Based on some examples I found here, I thought on this commands

access-list GUESTWIFI permit ip any 10.18.40.0 0.0.0.255 10.18.254.1 0.0.0.0

access-list GUESTWIFI permit ip 10.18.40.0 0.0.0.255 10.18.60.15 0.0.0.0

access-list GUESTWIFI permit ip 10.18.40.0 0.0.0.255 10.18.60.16 0.0.0.0

access-list GUESTWIFI permit ip any any

Thing is right on the first line it gives me error

"access-list GUESTWIFI permit ip any 10.18.40.0 0.0.0.255   ^  10.18.254.1 0.0.0.0"

Any ideas?

PowerConnect 6224 VLAN for WAN connection of VM router

$

I've created a VLAN containing 3 ports, 1 for each VM host connection and 1 for the modem.  The switch sees the MAC addresses in the VLAN for the VM and the modem.  However, I cannot get the network interface on the VM to receive the IP address from my ISP.

The ultimate goal is to be able to VMotion the router VM for maintenance and failover.

Can anyone provide any insight?  I search, but I apparently don't know the correct things to search for.  i would think this would be a fairly common question.

Thanks!

PowerConnect 5548P: Radius API returned error

Hi,

Since few months, I working to deploy the security protocol 802.1x on wired network of enterprise. It's work well, but since two weeks one of our switches is not more able to authenticate users.

It's a DELL PowerConnect 5548p - firmware version 4.1.0.20

I get the same message in logs for every try:

Warning %SEC-W-SUPPLICANTUNAUTHORIZED: MAC **** was rejected on port gi*** because Radius API returned error (e.g. No Radius server is configured)

Whereas the radius server are configured, there can ping and servers are ok: there works well with other switches

Spanning Tree Topology Change Received:

Hello Support,

We have a N3024F switch with firmware 6.2.0.5.

In the log files we have dozens of messages like this, I am attaching the complete log file :

Spanning Tree Topology Change Received: MSTID: 0 Gi1/0/7

These messages use to come from the interfaces Gi1/0/3 and  Gi1/0/7 and both are final switches (N2024P) with Ruckus AP. Maybe it could be a configuration problem on these end switches? What should be the problem?

Thank you.

René

Feature request: Implement a timeout for BPDU protection

$

Hi,

don't know it is the right place here but here is a request: The BPDU-Protection feature comes handy to avoid network loops, especially if users try to help themselves and mess something up. Unfortunately, the BPDU Protection ind DNOS 6.x and 9.x shuts down the affected port permanently, which requires network crew intervention. Also, as far as I know there is not trap saying "Port #X was shut down by BPDU protection", it just traps "Link down"

Other vendors, like HP Procurve also lack this kind of traps, but have a timeout in BPDU protection. This also comes extremely handy. Here is the flow with Procurve:

Link up

Send Link up trap

Wait <BPDU interval> for BPDU on the port

BPDU received

Shut down port

Send link down trap

Start timer for BPDU-Protection timeout and keep the port down until it expires

Link up

....

As STP packet are the first packages to be send or received on a port, even before starting forwarding any traffic, this save. The user just see his link going up for a second and then going down immediately. If the loop persists, the port will keep going up and down in, say, 1 minute interval. But for the admin, the port looks like it's flapping. Every NMS will recognize this as an error condition and report, yet there is no need to reconfigure the switch, Just remove the condition that led to triggering BPDU protection and off you go.

Alternatively, please implement a "BPDU protection triggered on port $1" trap.

Thanks in advance, looking forward for your comments

N2000 CPLD update

I have a large number of 2024p/2048p switches that we deployed last summer with 6.3.0.15,16 or 18 and CPLD 13. I was looking over the notes for the upgrade to 6.3.2.7 and trying to figure out the impact of the CPLD update from 13 to 15. The language of the patch notes is not worded as strongly as most of the other content, they mention you can upgrade it where for other components they tell you that you must upgrade it (like boot code), but that you MUST downgrade it to go backwards.

In addition, they requirement to visit every switch and connect directly to it/power cycle it locally is a gigantic burden.

Its it required to update to CPLD 15 at the same time as upgrading to 6.3.2.7?  Is is possible to go to 6.3.2.7 and stay on CPLD 13 until someone can go to each switch and do the CPLD update (weeks or months), or should we stop at some lower release, like 6.3.2.6 that did not yet have the CPLD update until we can schedule the visits?

PowerEdge VRTX R1-2401 Configuration

So I am trying to setup the installed 2401 switch in the chassis and I am running into my first issue right out of the gate.

Error message: Duplicated IP interface on the same subnet.

Situation: I have a Broadband router (FIOS) upstream using 192.168.1.x /24 I have one port from it to the 2401 and the CMC and iDRAC's all have addresses on this subnet. I am trying to setup the default VLAN 1 to have an address on this network and in doing so I get the aforementioned error. I have also tried to just assign this static IP address 192.168.1.99 to a physical external port and I get the same error message.

Anyone that can explain why I cannot assign an IP address to an up-link port would be greatly appreciated (or a way to do so.).

Thanks,

Bill

Enabling BPDUGuard on Portfast ports for a N series switch

N Series Switch Mac-Address Port-Security

$

0

Hello all,

We use N30's and N20's in our network, and have started using port-security to lock down machines to ports etc using the following port settings:

!
interface Gi1/0/1
description "---"
switchport port-security
switchport port-security dynamic 0
switchport port-security maximum 1
switchport port-security mac-address ####.####.#### vlan #
exit
!

Which is fine, although the question has been asked if its feasible to setup mac addresses against a vlan interface instead of a switchport. At present with the above, once a mac is made static (rather than dynamic) the device will only work that port, regardless of whether other ports are not running port-security settings.

The vlan-mac locking is not essential but would offer greater flexibility. Primarily this config will be on the N20's since these are edge switches and N30's are considered as core.

Cheers,

Powerconnect 6248 Route Preference

I have about 8 or 9 static routes configured all with preference 1 in my powerconnect 6248. I want to change all of them at once to like 10 or 20 so that I can at least have some wiggle room to add some one off preferred routes.

Is there a command I can run that will change all of these routes at once to lets say 20?

Unable to configure interface on Dell Powerconnect M6348

I have a task to add more Vlans to an already defined Vlan list on multiple Dell switches.
When I go to configure mode, and under the interface, there are no switchport related commands available for me only these:

config-if-Gi1/0/30)#?

description Add Description to the interface
do Run Privileged Exec mode commands.
dot1x Configure Dot1x interface commands.
exit To exit from the mode.
show Show configured settings and operational status.
shutdown Enable/Disable a port.

I am using software version 5.1.3.7 on the switches.
Please advice what should I do to configure the ports.

Thank you!

No connection to stack (N1548 2x - N1548P)

Hi,

I created a stack between 3 switches. I created 2 vlan's (22, 24).

These are only used on port 43 - 48 of the N1548P, 3th member in stack.

On the Default Vlan 1 i set the ip adress to 192.168.20.201/23.

Just to test the stack and routing i connected an uplink on port 3 of the master to a port on my existing switches, also in the range 192.168.20.

No i have a pc connected on my existing switch, NOT the stack, and i get and ip from my dhcp in that range but i cannot ping the stack ip .201

Also i connected a second network card of the pc directly to a port on the stack master switch and set a static ip in that range but i still cannot ping my stack ip.

I also cannot ping from my stack to anything else.

Here you will find my config.

I have tried various settings on both the Cisco and Dell N2048P switching now and I have not had any success in getting the VLAN tags out to the new switches, including switching the ports both ends to General ports and I have had no success, can someone please help if they have had success on this, also should I ensure that these settings match both ends ? as it hasnt seemed to work so far.

I am from fairly new to networking coming from a cisco background so its a bit of a struggle here.

Thanks,

Rich

Connect PC 6248 to N3024 over AT&T ASE

We have a new AT&T ASE point to point (layer 2 metro ethernet) circuit with a 1GB port. At one location, we have a N3024 and a 6248 at the other end. The circuit is terminated with multi-mode fiber - SC connector. On the N3024, it connects with a link light. On the 6248, we cannot  get a link light using the SFP+ port on the front. We also installed the a 10GE SFP+ module in bay 2 of the 6248. I configured the 10G using a similar commands below. I am unable to get a link light and I've tried setting port speeds, different transceivers (diagnostics show good). When I connect an old 5424 to the same circuit, I get a link light.

In summary, I have 2 basic questions:

1) Has anyone ever connected Dell switches to AT&T ASE service? Please pass on tips/tricks. I've done it on Juniper with no problem.

2) Can I connect the 6248 to a N3024 using the 10G SFP+ port on the 6248 across the metro ethernet?

3) Am I missing anything on why I can't get a link light on the 6248?

console# configure

console(config)# interface Ethernet 1/g1

console(config-if)# switchport mode general

console(config-if)# switchport general allowed vlan add 1 (you will need to specifically add any other vlans that you have configured that need to reach the other switch)

console(config-if-1/g1)#duplex full/half

console (config-if-1/g1)#speed 10/100/1000

console(config-if)# end
