Port Security on 6248's

$

Hi All,

I am fairly certain i am missing something here, but what is quite an easy task on a Cisco doesn't seem to work on these dells.

Port Configuration:

spanning-tree portfast
switchport access vlan 999
port security discard
port security max 1

Now when i plug a device in it learns it's MAC, which is fine.  Then i unplug that device and plug in another, expecting it to discard the packets, yet when doing a show port security addresses on the port it shows the new MAC!

I would have thought it would have picked up the fact that it is a new MAC and started discarding it's frames, yet it has removed the last MAC it learned and now thinks this is the MAC for the port.

On Cisco's you need to run the global config command for port security, but there doesn't seem to be the same thing on Dells.

It was running firmware  3.3.8.2, which i am in the process of updating to see if it is fw related.

Any tips?

Cheers

IGMP snooping multicast issue DELL 4032f MLAG connection to Cisco switch

We have been moving to the DELL 4032f  MLAG connected switch as the core of a CCTV network with a Cisco 4510 as a LAG connection to the older network.  We can not seem to get MULTICASTING traffic to pass over the DELL to CISCO LAG link.  Multicast groups show up on DELL side of port channel but not the Cisco Side so CISCO side of network never seems to see the multicast traffic

Dell Powerconnect 6224F requiring power cycle to reboot (or reload)

I had a used unit that was requiring a full power cycle to get it to reboot,

So I bought a factory fresh unit, upgraded to 3.3.15.1 and copied configuration from older unit with issues, and now it has exact issues.

I reset to factory specs, did not install config off old switch and it still will not reload via the web page or the telnet screen.

Any ideas or help? I do not dare to put in production where it would require hands on reboot (power cycle) to reboot it. we have remote power controllers but they will be inaccessible during a failure of this switch.

Hi.

I have some SFPs interface model FTLF1318P3BTL, but with differences in a code. Some of them have 15-37, others 15-38, others 15-36.

When I connect different codes, the SFPs don´t get connected.

What is the difference of this code?

Thanks

Using a N3024F for a redundant internet connection

$

I am looking to use a single N3024F for a redundant internet connection setup. This would be in the case where I would have separate ISP both coming into the switch. If our main ISP has an outage the switch would auto failover to the secondary connection. It appears I would need BGP compatible switch to make this work. What are the N3024F capabilities for this type of scenario?

(Note the single N3024F would have redundant power supply's however please let me know if you believe two N3024F's would be a better solution if the N3024F is capable of what I am trying to accomplish.)

Dell N4064 connection to Brocade VDX6740B

Hi PowerConnect Forum.

I have a brief query regarding interconnecting the N4064 switch (10GBase-T ports) with a Brocade VDX6740B switch (10GB SFP+ ports).

We have had to rule out using directly connecting QSFP+ 40GB or finding a module (that doesnt seem to exist) for the Brocade to support 10Gbase-T connectivity,

I was recommended to take a look at the 40GbE QSFP+ to 4 x 10GbE SFP+ Cable (accessories.euro.dell.com/.../productdetail.aspxwhich appears to be available in 1m,3m,7m and other sizes - in theory this should allow the physical interconnection required from the Dell switches into the Brocade's 'bare' SFP+ ports.

My key concerns are around compatibility .. i.e. has anyone done this before with an N4064 to a Brocade switch. Also for both the 1m (link above) and 3m cable the N4064 isn't shown as a supported platform (although this is the part that was recommended)

Finally (!) - would I just be safer from a compatibility prespective opting for the SFP+ 10GbE Module expansion card for the N4064 instead and then connecting to the Brocade using either Direct-Attach or Optics + Cables. show running-config not working - Powerconnect 2824

We have a few old PC2824s, and for some reason the "show running-config" command is returning "Unrecognized command" on them.  We have a POE that's in the same series, and the command works fine on it.  I'm in privileged exec mode in all cases, and using a user with full permissions (level 15).  I can run other exec mode commands like show tech-support.  Any ideas why this might not work on some switches?

Thanks!

Hi

Please assist me to find the problem, I have connected a Dell Force 10 switch to a Cisco Nexus 5000, the Nexus is running MSTP and the Dell switch is running basic spanning tree, the problem is when they are interconnected, the ports are blocked, not sure if it is a problem of Spanning tree.

I was reading this article

Between the devices we have a port channel.

Thank you so much

Enable "switchport" command from CLI

Hi, All,

I got a dell x4012 switch and would like to use it in a lab environment. I plan to script the running-config via SSH, to dynamically add or remove interfaces from a given vlan. However, to my surprise, I cannot find "switchport" command under interface configuration.

When I try to the configuration from the GUI, it works fine. And the"switchport" command configuration shown in running-config, e.g. after I did the config from GUI, then check it via SSH with "show run inter te1/0/6", it shows "switchport access vlan 300" under te1/0/6. However, if I try to type the same command under interface configuration, the command line interface complained unknown command. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or there are some other places I have enable it? I'm running the latest firmware 3.0.0.91

Best Regards

Daniel

Dell PowerConnect 2748

I provide IT assistance for a local church and I am looking for some assistance with Vlan settings on the Dell PowerConnect 2748.

Currently we have a Sonicwall Router that handles the DHCP and there is a Cat5 cable from the SonicWall to the Dell PowerConnect 2748 switch. There are no access points connected to the Dell PowerConnect 2748 Switch but there are other switches connected to it which have Ubiquiti Unifi Access Points connected to them.

We are looking to have our WiFi on a second subnet from our hardwired devices as well as a third subnet for a Guest WiFi environment.

Thank you

6224 not registering MAC's?

$

I have two R710's running vmware 6.  I'm trying to set up a standard switch on each host to do vmotion on a separate vlan.  I have another set up for iscsi traffic that seems to be working fine, on a sperate vlan.  The issue I'm running into is that neither server is showing the MAC addresses for the nics I've set up, in the address table, and the network can't talk to either host.  I've checked the hosts and everything seems to be configured properly, so I'm really scratching my head on this one.

PowerConnect VLAN Setting

I have a wireless AP with two SSIDs, one for normal use, and one for guest use.

I have the guest SSID setup to tag traffic as vlan 100

This is connected to port 3 of my PowerConnect 2824.

From there I have port 2 of the PowerConnect 2824 connected to my Mikrotik router.

<>______________________________________________________________<>

What I would like is to setup ports on the PowerConnect correctly in order to get the tagged traffic from the AP through the PowerConnect and on to the router. (and on to the internet)

I understand there is a T U F and Blank setting for the VLANs in the PowerConnect as well as individual port settings but I do not understand enough about how they work to set them up correctly.

Any help please?

Change password on Dell Force10 S50N

Hi,

I have a Dell Force10 S50N switch which has a username (it is not 'admin') and a password I know. I can access the CLI via SSH. I need to change that user's password but I don't know how and can't seem to find much information on how to do it online.

I have little experience with switches (any brand) and have just been handed one over and now I need to change the password.

This is a production switch, so can't really reset it to factory defaults or reboot it.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

N3024 to N2024 Vlan routing configuration

$

Hi,

I'm unable to route/ping between vlan subnets (except the Management vlan). The N3024 configured as the core and ip routing is enabled. Vlan interfaces are configured with an ip address. Trunk ports have all the the vlans I've created, allowed. The config is pretty much straight out of the cli/user guide for the model. However, trying to research this problem I've come across conflicting advice which seem to contradict the manuals content?

1). Every Vlan requires its own ip address on each network switch?

2). Static routes between switches for the vlans?

3). IP Routing configured on each switch (should not the global command cater for this)?

Any guidance would be appreciated
