Force10 MXL VLT with MSTP

Hello, can somebody please clarify situation with F10 MXL switches and MSTP configuration in VLT mode on them.

Didn't find clear description about situation when whole network configured in MSTP and single pair of Force10 (non ToR switches) are converting from STACK to VLT.

Major problem that we have several mstp instance and this pair of switches connecting to several of them. During implementation, suddenly we got mstp block in ports configured in vlt-peer-lag (Port-channel interfaces), we had to disable one port from each vlt port-channel interfaces to make this port working.

I understand that my description looks unclear, so please refer on topology diagram attached, links marked with red became blocked with MSTP

Route management VLAN that is connected to M1000e CMC through Force10 switch

I realize this involves blades and chassis configuration, but this appears to be a problem with routing through the Force10 swith so I have posted this here.

We have an M1000e deployed with Force10 switches. We have 3 networks with the following VLANs:

  • ISSNET (No VLAN): Fabric C connected via 4 port LAG to stack of Cisco 2960 switches.
  • DEVNET (VLAN14): Fabric A connected via 2 port LAG to single Cisco 2960 switch with a few physical machines connected to it.
  • MGMTNET (VLAN17): M1000e CMC connected to Cisco SF200 switch with other DRAC/iLo ports connected to it. Goal is to use some ports on fabric A connected via 2 port LAG to single Cisco SF200 switch with a few DRAC/iLo connected to it.

Note: Fabric B is the SAN/vMotion network and is not connected to the firewall or any other network.

We want to use a virtual machine as a firewall running on the M1000e to control access to MGMTNET and DEVNET from ISSNET. We were previously running the firewall as a VM on an R710 that I am trying to get rid of and would like to move the VM to the appropriate blade. The blade(s) it will run on is connected to all fabrics. For simplicity, I will use blade 16 for the example.

The firewall is working between DEVNET and ISSNET. The Force10 config for the DEVNET is:

Internal blade port

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/16
description Internal_server_NIC
no ip address
mtu 12000
portmode hybrid
switchport
flowcontrol rx on tx off
spanning-tree rstp edge-port
no shutdown

Force10 external port connected to Cisco 2960 switch

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/49
description VLT_LAG_member
no ip address
flowcontrol rx on tx off
!
port-channel-protocol LACP
port-channel 1 mode active
no shutdown

LAG port channel to Cisco 2960 switch

interface Port-channel 1
description PoC-1_VLT_LAG
no ip address
portmode hybrid
switchport
vlt-peer-lag port-channel 1
no shutdown

VLAN14

interface Vlan 14
description ESXi_&_vCenter
no ip address
tagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/1-29
tagged Port-channel 1
untagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/41-42,50
no shutdown

Cisco 2960

2 LAG ports are configured in trunk mode and default VLAN is set to 14 for the switch.

I thought I would just need to configure a similar setup for VLAN17, LAG port channel to Cisco SF200, and Force10 port external port to Cisco SF200 so I configured the below:

Internal blade port

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/32
description Internal_server_NIC
no ip address
mtu 12000
portmode hybrid
switchport
flowcontrol rx on tx off
spanning-tree rstp edge-port
no shutdown

Force10 external port connected to Cisco SF200 switch

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/52
description VLT_LAG_17_member
no ip address
flowcontrol rx on tx off
!
port-channel-protocol LACP
port-channel 17 mode active
no shutdown

LAG port channel to Cisco SF200 switch

interface Port-channel 17
description PoC-17_VLT_LAG
no ip address
portmode hybrid
switchport
vlt-peer-lag port-channel 17
no shutdown

VLAN17

interface Vlan 17
description ManagementNet
no ip address
tagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/30-32
tagged Port-channel 17
no shutdown

Cisco SF200

2 LAG ports are configured in trunk mode and default VLAN is set to 17 for the switch.

The firewall cannot connect to the Cisco SF200 switch, the chassis CMC, or the Force10 management ports. I cannot connect to the firewall from a machine connected to the Cisco SF200 switch, but I can connect to the chassis CMC and Force10 management ports.

The firewall can connect to other virtual machines on VLAN17 on the same and other blades so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the internal blade port. It seems to be a problem with the LAG connection.

I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong or if this is even possible. Since the CMC is connected to the Cisco SF200 switch, I am wondering if that is going to prevent this configuration from working. Does anyone have any ideas?

Powerconnect 6248, basic setup

I'm trying to getup an inherited powerconnect 6248 switch and m1000e blade chassis.  I've wiped things on the switch and blade chassis but am having a *** of a time being able to do a basic config.

I can't seem to be able to ping any address, vlan 1 or not, or hit any webpages.  If someone has great step by step instructions, I don't need anything crazy, just need to be able to allow the m1000 with passthrough switches to communicate.

Thank you!

Hello,

I am checking the spanning status under Dell 3448 and please find the following output.

It looks like now is running with Instance 0.

But I am not sure is it really function now as some other band switch not support Instance 0

Following please find the output when checking the spanning status.

PowerConnect 3448P PoE Mode A or Mode B

Could you please tell me the electrical wiring for the PoE ports on the PowerConnect 3448P?  I am trying to connect a Ubiquiti Unifi Cloud Key to the PowerConnect and it fails to negotiate power.  The Ubiquiti device is Mode B.  That is, it uses pins 4,5 and 7,8 for PoE power.

So, I need to know if the PowerConnect is electrically Mode A (1,2 & 3,6) or Mode B (4,5 & 7,8).

Thank you.

How to create new port channel on auto-lag enabled switch when ports are already in portmode hybrid?

$

All,

I am totally new to dell switches (cisco background) and have been asked to create a port channel split over a pair of existing dell aggregator enclosure switches. All the other ports which are connected to the servers except the ports in question I am trying to configure are in port channel.

I have read that they cannot be in a port mode to do auto-lag port channel but I seem to be totally failing to workout how to:

1) Create a new port channel

2) Take the existing ports out of the port mode

3) Add the port to the new port channel.

When I try to create a new port channel interface  I get as shown below

agg1(conf)#int po16
Error: Command allowed only for uplink Lag.

The port(s) I am try to change currently have this config:

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/1
 mtu 12000
 portmode hybrid
 switchport
 vlan tagged 220,223,950
 flowcontrol rx on tx off
!
 protocol lldp
  advertise management-tlv management-address system-name
  dcbx port-role auto-downstream
 no shutdown

And I am trying to get them in to the same config as this example port on the same switch (with a different port channel unique to the t0/1 port on both dell aggregators)

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/2
 mtu 12000
 vlan tagged 220,223,950
 flowcontrol rx on tx off
!
 port-channel-protocol LACP
  port-channel 1 mode active
!
 protocol lldp
  advertise management-tlv management-address system-name
  dcbx port-role auto-downstream
 no shutdown

which is then tied to :

!
interface Port-channel 1
 mtu 12000
 portmode hybrid
 switchport
 vlt-peer-lag port-channel 1
 no shutdown
 link-bundle-monitor enable

I am sure I must be missing some top level command somewhere that allow me to configure but I seem to be going round in circles and the only guides seem to be coming from a fresh switch setup (and concerned I am going to impact the setup of the other ports.

Any pointers would be greatly appreiciated

PowerConnect 6224 connector to RPS-600

This is probably the dumbest question I ever asked: I sent a technician to install on our PowerConnect 6224 a recently purchased RPS-600. The technician calls me back and tells me that the connector for the DC IN on the switch is not there (See attached image)

I tried looking on the manual and on optional accessories but could not find any information on a DC IN module. Am I right in my guess the connector is just hidden behind the cover? or is there some optional module I should buy for this (I already have the RPS-600 and cables)?

DHCP Relays Dell S3100 Series Switch Issues

I have a Cisco core, I am integrating Dell into my network because I have heard great things.  I need to set up DHCP Relays on my vlans (coming from a cisco background) and found that it has to be applied at the interface not the Vlan. I tried to apply it to my interfaces and I get "interface not in layer 3 mode". So this is my problem, am I to put all my ports into Layer 3 to get my relays added? This is on Dell S3148P switches.

VLAN validation on PowerEdge M I/O Aggregator switch

Hi,

We got new Dell M1000e chassis with 2 PowerEdge M I/O Aggregator switch which are in (Role :Standalone , Mode : PMUX )

I am trying to validate VLAN which are coming from upstream Nexus 5K switch, when i check the "poweredge-m-io-aggregator_Administrator Guide7_en-us" PDF we have ping command with below options, non of the Syntax is working.

ping
Test connectivity between the system and another device by sending echo requests and waiting for replies.
Syntaxping [host | ip-address] [count {number | continuous}] [datagram-size] [timeout] [source (ip src-ipv4-address) | interface] [tos] [df-bit (y|n)] [validate-reply(y|n)] [pattern pattern] [sweep-min-size] [sweep-max-size] [sweep-interval] [ointerface (ip src-ipv4-address) | interface]

Only Ping IP address works, i would like validate Vlans which are presented from upstream working or not before moving the chassis to production.

kindly help me how to validate particulate vlan from specific interface by pining the gateway.

x1026p and x1018p

We have a few of these switches and about every 2 weeks or so, we lose the ability to manage them.  By this I mean the following:

1) The web portal never completely loads

2) We connect via ssh and can log in, but entering a command results in the command no completing and not returning to a prompt

The only remedy is to reboot.

x1018p

We have a Dell x1018 P that communicating with the switch next to it (connected via fiber on an SFP). Upon fir inspection, we noticed that while the switch was powered up, all the ports were dark.  We had to reboot it twice for it to become operational again.

It has the latest firmware (3.0.0.90).

Any ideas as to what could cause this and a potential remedy?  The uptime prior to rebooting was about 3 weeks.
