Hi all,
I have to configure EoMPLS, but not sure how and if its possible with "Dell Power Connect 6248".
The infrastructure or topology is like: Public switch ==== ISP Router ====== ISP Router ===== Public Switch.
I try finding the commands but nothing that can give me that options. Or should i go with just put trunks and VLANs to the ISP Router.
Any idea ?
Thanks in advanced !
Ivan
Hi All,
Can someone please explain to me how this command works? My scenario is that i have an SCCM primary site server in a different site and i need Wake on Lan working.
I can use SCCM to wake my devices with the command configured on the int vlan's, but i am worried that it also then will enable PC broadcasts to traverse subnets, is this the case with this command?
With Cisco, i think you can configure redirected broadcasts and also use a source IP or ACL to only allow that one to be forwarded. Is this at all possible on the Powerconnect 6248?
Thanks

Hi all,
I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to Dell networking having had a background in Cisco IOS so this might be a dumb question but..... My equallogics can no longer replicate to our DR site and I suspect this might be the reason
Port Description Link M VLAN
Channel State
------- ------------------------------ ------- -- -------------------
Po50 Down G (1),5
Link state is showing as down and that port channel is carrying my iscsi traffic (AFAIK). Thing is, I cannot find out how to enable this again. Could someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I'm quite new to Dell switches so please forgive me if this is a silly question. On my 6224, when I do sh iscsi, the switch returns Disabled. Does this mean the switch will not be in a state to forward iscsi packets to its next hop? Or, is it referring to another function...
Greatly appreciate any help. Kind of struggling here....
Good morning.
We have purchased a VRTX PowerEdge M630 with an R1-2210 switch. We want to use one of the SFP ports so we can have a 10GB link. We cannot figure out how to map an external port to an internal port so the SFP port will show up under windows server 2012. The external port is live but how do we allow the servers to use it?
The two copper ports worked straight away with no problem, but there must be an extra step to getting SFP ports working?
Cheers!
Hello guys,
I am having an issue on my network. Once in a while icmp echo packets are being lost and this is causing our monitoring system to trigger false alarms.
I have checked the switches interfaces and found that the discarded packets counter is being incremented in one of them.
Flow control is enabled on the interface and there are no Pause Frames being sent.
The duplex on both ends are correct so are the port speeds.
The switch firmware is 3.3.9.1 and the model is a PowerConnect 6248.

I just bought an old 2161DS-2 KVM over IP switch. I was able to install management software and configure the switch. When I try to access the switch from a web browser (Firefox) all the connections happen but when the consoles opens up in the browser I cannot see any icons. Basically (running windows) I cannot see any start, or any other buttons, just middle part of the screen.
The machine I am trying to access has a resolution of 1920x1080. Could this be a resolution issue? Can I change something in the switch so that it can open higher resolution screens as compared to default settings.or something else needs to be configured in the switch parameters. Any tips would be nice..Thanks
Hello, group-
We are using N2048s, and doing dot1x to a MS 2012 NPS RADIUS server. This is working fine.
We are also in the process of migrating desktop OS from Windows 7, to Windows 10.
What we are seeing is an issue where a user will use our VPN to get access to the network, and RDP from their laptop, to their desktop machine. Again, this works well, as long as the desktop OS is Windows 7. When the desktop is a Windows 10 box, users see RDP sessions disconnected briefly everytime Dot1X re-auth occurs.
Has anyone else seen this ? Is this expected behavior ?
Thanks !
Hi
I have a Dell m1000e blade with 2 brocade switch 4424 one of is working fine and other one I can not access since the ip adress on the swtich shows 0.0.0.0.
It wont let me even change ip address from Dell CMC, please me know how I can fix this.
Thank you
Hi,
We used to use 4 x dell 5324 switches.
Then we discovered VLANs
We changed to 1x5324 switch which has 4 vlans.
However when the switch is flooded with traffic on the internet facing vlan (e.g. by a big port scan/attack) then the other vlans drop ports/ have problems.
Is this normal?
How can we stop this happening?
The internet vlan(vlan1) goes to our firewalls which then goes to vlans 2,3 and 4.
Do we need to use a separate switch for traffic from the internet (from multiple routers) to our firewalls (multiple HA)?
Or is this something to do with tagging? I set all ports to Untagged.
Thanks
Simon
Hi All,
I am using N4032 switch in current infrastructure and it's working fine. the structure is like this
Firewall --------L2switch(flat)------- N4032 --------- Servers/ESX.
I am using routing between firewall and N4032 switch.
Now, I would like to add the 2nd N4032 for redundancy. My vcenter doesn't have the license to use vds for lacp. so Is it possible to do the stacking the two N4032 switch? one will be master and when it fails the 2nd switch will forward the traffic to upstream and downstream. if it is possible to do, may I know
1) how many cables need to connect for stacking in two switch with N4032 tengigabitethernet interfaces. and how to connect the cables. for eg, is it like Sw1 port 23 connect to Sw2 port 24 and Sw1 port24 connect to Sw2 port23. cross connection?
2) may I know the stack configuration also.
3) is that server two NIC will be connecting one to master switch and another NIC to slave switch?
Thanks a lot.
cheers.
I currently have voice and data on the same subnet but due to the way our web traffic is filtered it causes issues with voice so we need to segregate the voice onto a separate VLAN.
I've added a virtual interface on my Dell Sonicwall firewall and followed this post (en.community.dell.com/.../18956488) for the PowerConnect setup but something is not right.
The phones (Avaya IPO) on the LAN all work correctly, they get the VLAN information from the DHCP server on the LAN and contact the phone switch for a IP on the voice VLAN. The problem is with traffic between the phone switch and the data LAN which when captured on the Sonicwall is being dropped as the packets appear to come from the data LAN (X0) instead of the voice LAN (X0:V2).
Is this down to my port configurations on the network switch?
In the post above, in the first reply it states "Make the port a tagged member of your voice vlan and a untagged member of the data vlan. Set your PVID for the port to whatever your data vlan is." Is "the port" the one which the phone switch is connected to? Currently I have all ports set as untagged on the default VLAN and tagged on the voice VLAN.
TIA
Chris
Hi,
We have two Force10 MXL switches in our blade centre and wanted some expansion for additional storage so purchased two N4032F switches and dual port QSFP+ modules for both ends and 40Gb QSFP cables.
We already have a LAG configured between the two Force10 MXLs and also using two 10Gb LR transceivers to two N4032F switches on a separate site, so assumed it would be relatively easy to add the two extra switches on the QSFP ports.
The new switches have identical configurations except for the port channel numbers as they are simple layer 2 iSCSI switches.
I have been unable to get the 40Gb interface to come up let alone the port channel.
Both sides see the transceivers (40GBASE-CR4-3M) you can connect the two N4032F with the same cables and ports and instant connection, the same with the Force10 MXL, just not to each other?
I assume I am doing something silly but I can't see it.

I'm in the process of switching one of the 40Gb ports to 4x10Gb and trying that as I have the cables spare, failing that try and find a spare 10gb SPF cable.
I am also planning to upgrade all the firmware just in case.
Any advice would be gratefully received,
Thanks,

I am trying to create a small office network using 3048 L3 switch and 2048 Power line series switch. Basic requirement is 3 VLANs for Data Network, PABX and Wireless. I have configured 3048 with Vlan 1, 192.168.1.1/24, Vlan 2, 192.168.2.1/24, Vlan 3, 192.168.3.1/24 and 2048 with Vlan 1, 192.168.1.2/24, Vlan 2, 192.168.2.2/24, Vlan 3, 192.168.3.2/24 . Te1 of both switches configured as trunk with all VLANs allowed. I am able to receive DHCP leases to the clients in this setup. VLAN 1 is able to connect to the Internet as well. However, VLAN 2 and 3 are unable to communicate each other plus no internet. I have created a static route 0.0.0.0/0 to the router IP. Please assist me to configure VLAN routing.
hi
for the network of our switches i have made a wildcard certificate to ease the management of the keys
but i don't find any way to transfer the key and the certificate to my powerconnect siwtches
how can i do that?
i have N4000
7048
5548
N2048 switches
Hi all,
We have on one site PowerConnect 6248 Site A with VLAN 100,200,and 300. And on the other end N3048 with the same VLAN 100, 200, and 300. The EoMPLS is done via ISP and we have some L2 connection from VLAN 100 we have one PC and we can see the MAC of it but we can't get IP part to work.
Here is the topology:
IPs on the servers .....Site A Switch VLAN 100,200, 300 ====TRUNK=== ISP Router ====EoMPLS====ISP Device ====TRUNK====Site B Switch VLAN 100, 200, 300 ----- PC that is on VLAN 100 Switch port access with the same IPs on the Site A
So we can see the MAC of the PC on Site A but we can't route the IP traffic to it, we cant get out from Site B IPs to the Site A or outside.
Configuration on the Switch A:
interface port 43
no negotiation
spanning-tree disable
mtu 9000
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 100-300
Switch B:
interface port 45
no negotiation
spanning-tree disable
mtu 9000
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 100-300
Ports configuration on both sites:
interface ethernet 1/g1
switchport access vlan 191
exit
So any hints on what can be done ?
Hello,
I would like to report a problem I had after upgrading a stack of three N2048 switches from version 6.2.6.6 to version 6.3.0.16
After the upgrade, some PCs in some vlans could not reach their gateway anymore. I found that these devices didn't have their gateway's mac in their arp table. It would seem that their arp requests would get dropped in the port channel connecting the N2048 stack to the rest of the network. Adding a static arp entry on the affected PCs allowed them to reach their gateway.
I know that there has been a bug (fixed in 6.3.15) with packet drops on port channels using mode 7 (Enhanced). This gave me a clue and today I changed the hashing mode to 6 (Source/Destination IP and source/destination TCP/UDP port) and I removed the static arp entries I had created as a workaround the day before. I could then see the gateway as dynamic entries on the PCs, as it should.
It would seem that there is still a bug with Enhanced Hashing in 6.3.0.16. I'll be happy to send my config and / or more information if requested to help you investigate the problem.
Regards,
Martin
hi,
having three vlans and now trying to introduce dot1x to only certain ports I do:
Rd(config)#dot1x system-auth-control # enable it
Rd(config)#aaa authentication dot1x default radius # point to radius
Rd(config)#interface ethernet 1/g1 # bind it to a port
Rd(config-if-1/g1)#dot1x port-control auto # config dot1x
I assumed that dot1x has to be forced/activated on per port/int basis and before that is done there is no dot1x, but it seems that - dot1x system-auth-control - does not wait for anything and shuts everything down instantly.
Is this desired behaviour?
And if yes then how does one introduce dot1x gradually, staring with one ethernet port which is configured like here:
1/g1
Flow Control:Enabled
Port: 1/g1
VLAN Membership mode:Access Mode
Operating parameters:
PVID: 1
Ingress Filtering: Enabled
Acceptable Frame Type: Untagged
Default Priority: 0
GVRP status:Disabled
Protected:Disabled
--More-- or (q)uit
Port 1/g1 is member in:
VLAN Name Egress rule Type
---- --------------------------------- ----------- --------
1 Default Untagged Default
Static configuration:
PVID: 1
Ingress Filtering: Enabled
Acceptable Frame Type: Untagged
Port 1/g1 is statically configured to:
VLAN Name Egress rule
---- --------------------------------- -----------
Forbidden VLANS:
VLAN Name
---- ---------------------------------
many! thanks
