Open Manage Network Manager Top Interface Bandwidth

$

I have a 1GB link between 2 sites. On one side the link goes into a Force 10 (10GB port) and the other side goes into a 4032f 10GB port. The speed displays as 1GB in Open Manage which is correct.

My question is on the Top Interface Bandwidth within Dell OpenManage Network Manager, lets say it shows as 10% for this port (either side). Is that 10% of 10GB or 10% of 1GB. Obviously if it was 10% of 10GB, the link would be at maximum. My true figures are circa 6-7% daily.

M6348 Firmware password

Hello, I upgraded the firmware on my M6348 switch following the "Upgrading PowerConnect Switches from Version 2.x.x.x or 3.x.x.x or 4.x.x.x or 5.x.x.x to 5.1.10.1 Firmware" guide. However after it rebooted I am no longer able to log into the switch with any combination of username and passwords. I attempted to log in via telnet and that did not work either. I followed the directions exactly.

I am hoping to avoid needing to log into the console as I am 700 miles away from the switch.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Force10 to Cisco

Not sure how much Force10 is talked about here but I figured i'd give this a shot.

I have a couple Force10 4810P switches I want to connect to a set of stacked Cisco 3750s. I'm a complete novice on the Force10's so configuring them properly is proving to be troublesome.  Does anyone here have any advice to set up a trunk between them?  No matter the configuration to get there, I just need to understand the basics of connecting them.  Thanks.

Hi,

I have unit 4 units n2048p stacking together as shown, can I force switch 1 become permanent master/management unit? Currently I only can renumber the unit ID. Firmware ver. 6.3.1.8

Additional question:

1.) I have 1 voice vlan and 1 data vlan, how do I enable LLDP on this?

2.) How should I configure QoS for voice vlan?

VLANs can't see internet

Hello All,  I am new to VLANs and trying to learn on my own.   I have got a Powerconnect 6224.  I setup two vlans and connected two machines to each VLAN.  the machines in each VLAN can see each other and they can see the other VLAN members.  But,  none of them can see the internet... internet port is #2  what am I missing?

VLAN 10 interface = 10.10.0.1/24  members of vlan 10 = ports 17-21

VLAN 20 interface = 10.20.0.1/24  members of vlan 20 = ports 13-16

routes to each network

10.10.0.0 -> 10.10.0.2

10.20.0.0 -> 10.20.0.2

Here is the running config on the switch.  can you see what I missed?

HI Guys,

i am facing an issue with a switch dell N1548, we have a separate network just for surveillance cameras and all our 160 ip cameras are distribuited in 7 switches of the the same model, all the Switchs trunk port are showing me oversized packed and some of them are dropping package, i checked each port connected the cameras and not seeing any problem, it seems the problem is when the pachage arrives at the trunk port and charge the MTU size of the pachage them the problem starts, any ideia what may causing this mtu change ?

ps. please check the attach to check the error.

bes regards,

Testing (firmware 6.3.1.8)

copy startup-config suser@host/.../filename

executes but always ends with

File transfer failed!

But a check of destination host shows the file always transfers (I assume in its entirety).  Cosmetic bug or something deeper?

X4012 - showing two default gateways?

$

OK, I have a pair of X4012 switches installed in a remote location. When I had configured them, I had originally set the default-gateway to an atypical value because I thought I was going to be sharing a /24 network. That didn't happen, so now, I would like to correct the gateway settings, but when I tried to overwrite the old gateway setting in the CLI, it actually added a second gateway.

How do you remove a default-gateway from these things? The GUI is useless for changing the gateway, but I don't mind CLI access. I just don't see how to do this...

40 port card throughput on E600 ExaScale chassis

Hi,

Anyone using 40 port 10G cards (LC-EJ-10G-40S) with the E600i ExaScale platform ? What's the per port throughput on these cards ? Per docs each slot should have 100G of capacity but how does this map to individual port(s) on the linecard itself ? I have some 10G servers connected and seems that some (not all) ports get capped somewhere around 2.5 G while other seem to go up to 6...7G range. Are the ports grouped somehow and the bandwidth pre-allocated to a port group ? The old TeraScale had a port-pipe limit where a group of ports was mapped to the specific port-pipe and the total bandwidth was limited by the port-pipe throughput.

Open Manage Network Manager

I am using this software for switch management. For the past year, all I have got out of it is backing up the configs of all my switches. I knew that other cool stuff could be done with it and there is not much documentation out there.

Anyway somehow I am now getting somewhere with it. I have turned on sflow on some of my switches and now I am able to produce things like 'Top Talkers', 'Top Interface Bandwidth' etc but to be honest, I am not quite sure how I achieved this.

I would like to put a few questions out and hopefully get a better understanding.

Q1

Traffic Analyzer/Register - What does this do. I have ran it on 4 switches and it now says I don't have any licesnes to register anymore. What exactly does this do?

Q2

When looking at Traffic Flow/Top Conversations Reported Sample Value will show 5MB but if I change this to estimate Actual Value, it shows 5GB. I know 5GB is right because I transferred circa that mount. What is all that about?

Q3

After having no data to display at all for the past year, then setting up sflow on a few switches, why can I now all of a sudden see interface stats for switches I haven't setup flow on?

cheers

Powerconnect 6248 and sonicwall router TZ300

I have a simple network for a retail shop. I am using a Sonicwall TZ300 router/firewall with a powerconnect 6248 switch. As well as a TP Link 8 port POE switch for my wifi nodes. The network suddenly went down yesterday and there was no connection to the internet. As trouble shooting I found that the TP-link switch communicates to the Sonic Wall fine if I unplug the 6248. When I plug in the 6248 I lose internet. I have migrated the mission critical network connections to the TP-Link we we are still in business, but I'd like to know what to do with the 6248. It was working fine prior. It is a used switch and I don't know how to access it's management features. It powers up fine.

Any help is appreciated.

IP configuration assistance on PowerConnect 6248

$

Hello everyone,

I inherited a pair of stacked PC 6248 switches. These two switches are active and in production. I am not near these switches as there are located in another state at one of our other company locations. I have no way of connecting to these switches remotely except by a putty session I currently have running via a serial connection from a laptop I'm remotely connected to. There is a site to site VPN from the office I reside in and this location where these two switches reside. I can access any other device on this remote network accept for this switch stack. I would like to access these switches remotely via putty by accessing them via their IP address on the Data Vlan that has been setup which is VLAN 10. I need assistance in doing this. I have attached a copy of the running config as I have made a few changes but still am unable to access these two switches.

I took a portion of the config and copied it below. The text in blue is what was originally configured on the stack. The text in BOLD red is some commands I have added. So the problem I am having is after adding the commands I thought I needed I still cannot access this switch stack locally on that network or remotely via the site to site VPN. For example ( I try to ping the switch stack IP 192.245.134.1 from our firewall which is on the same network with an IP of 192.245.134.254) or I try to ping from the switch stack in reverse from its IP on VLAN10 of 192.245.134.1 over to the firewall 192.245.134.254 and I still cannot. I have tried to ping this switch stack on it's IP of 192.245.134.1 from other workstations which are all on the same 192.245.134.x network and I still cannot. I am not too versed with this type of setup and I am obviously missing something. Can someone let me know what commands I am missing please? Below is additional information on the setup of the network and a portion of the running config.

IP network scheme for all devices (workstations/servers/printers/firewall etc.) is the following.

IP: 192.245.134.x

Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.245.134.254

* IP addresses on this switch network are the following.

192.168.134.1 = This IP is on the default VLAN 1

192.245.134.1 = This is the IP address in on VLAN 10. I have assigned this IP to this stack.

* IP route on this switch "ip route 192.245.134.0 255.255.255.0 192.245.134.254"

192.245.134.254 = This is the firewall on the network that I would like this switch stack to send all traffic to. This firewall is the gateway for the entire network.

Hi

I have a Dell m1000e chasis and a1/a2 has poweconnect m6220s. The internal ports 1-16 works and active. But when I plugged the cable on port 17-20 there is not light and show interfaces status says Link down or inactive. I verified the cable is working. Any ideas?

"show interfaces status" says:

--

Gi1/0/17                              N/A     Unknown  Auto  Down   Inactive

---

"sh run" says

interface Gi1/0/17

Thanks

Changing from /24 to /16 on a PowerConnect 5548p

Currently, the default VLAN on my switch is 10.1.1.0 /24. (it is currently the only VLAN)

I want to change it to 10.1.0.0 /16. Is there a way to do this without resetting the config to defaults and starting over?

Thanks!

Trouble configuring a powerconnect 5548. No console

Hello,

So I've inherit a powerconnect 5548P that I'm trying to setup but I can't get it to work.

When I first plugged it I remember it was assigned an IP and I was able to reach the web interface.

Now I'm trying to set the admin password via CLI but the problem I'm having is that there is no console prompt, only ">" and the only command I have are either debug or help. I can no longuer reach the web UI either.

Here are the boot logs

I've also downloaded and installed the newest firmware using XMODEM but still....

I know my serial cable and terminal are good because I configured a 2248 before.

I've tried a lot of things so far but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas ? I hope my switch is not bricked :(

Thanks

New MXL pair, one stack port flapping

We recently got a brand new M1000e with dual MXL switches in it, after cancelling the bare metal provisioning all I did was attempt to stack the two on the built in 40gb ports by using the "stack-unit 0 stack-group 0" and "stack-unit 0 stack-group 1" commands, saving and reloading both switches and connecting the ports with 40gb cables as directed in the guides online. However, every minute or sometimes more I get the following and i'm not sure where to look. I've already tried a wipe and factory reset several times, perhaps it's a hardware issue?
